January Blog 2024

Happy January y’all!

This might seem a little strange with the title, but I wanted to give a bit of a new spin on my usual posts. They’ve been really infrequent this past year so for 2024, I’m sprucing things up by doing a monthly blog post! This will be a bigger deal than my regular, smaller posts and be kind of a summary of what’s been happening and what will be coming up as a whole. This way, my smaller posts can be dedicated to less of the boring life updates and more of the fun creative writing stuff, as well as giving those truly curious a dedicated place to search for my goings-on! I may also include some fun questions in here or ask for your thoughts and opinions on things!

With that in mind, this first blog is going to be a longer recap than the following posts. A lot has happened since I last provided an update!

On the topic of New Year’s resolutions, along with the blog I’m setting aside a specific time to record for Rose Petal Musings, my podcast that has also been severely neglected. If you’d like to have a listen to the five posted episodes, click here.

If you decide to take a look, you’ll see that I haven’t posted an episode since October of 2022. I plan to change this and get back onto a monthly recording/posting schedule. Let’s just say 2023 was a pretty eventful year for me with unexpected but not entirely unwelcome results. I still have a full-time job, as well, which can impact when I have time to do fun updates like this!

HOWEVER, this does not impact time for commissions, of which I did have a few last year! This was very exciting for me and I hope to have even more in 2024, maybe even some repeat customers?

One such customer/friend has been Hannah Middaugh. Some of you may recognize her from Hannah Middaugh Designs (and Photography). I was her very first Fan of the Month! My interview can be found here. I wrote a story for her about her precious little boy, Maximum, and an excerpt of that story can be found on my completed commissions page here.

Along with the new monthly blogs and podcast schedule, I’m going to be working on posting more often across all social media (including the clock app, yes)! My friends and family I’m sure are sick of hearing me gush about my planner, but I’m going to gush about it some more. Nothing makes a busy person’s life happier than having a planner and pretty markers to color-coordinate. Maybe that’s just me.

Another thing I’m hoping everyone noticed was my newest addition to the commissioner’s catalogue: Commission-To-Finish. I start the story, and you can commission me to finish it your way! One has already been posted, and I’ll have another one for you at the end of the month! Read over them, see if they catch your eye, and send me a commission to finish it! It gives very “create your own ending” vibes from those books we read as kids, which is why I like the concept so much. You all can thank Mr. Rose Petal Writings for that one.

Next order of business: Penny Stories! I can’t post enough about them because nobody has taken advantage of this yet! A penny per word all January long. You can send me an email, a direct message on any social media platform, or use linktree’s handy dandy commission button by going here!

Final thought for the month: I’m feeling revampy and would like everyone’s opinion. I’ve got a very “flower child” vibe going with my theme and am wondering if you like this? Has this been part of what’s attracted you to follow me and like my posts? Shall I keep the trend going or take a different stylistic route? Let me know in the comments below!

Until next month, rosebuds!

Penny Stories

Happy New Year everyone!

I am very pleased to reintroduce Penny Stories as my January special!

Have you ever wanted a story but all that Christmas gift purchasing left the piggy bank to only pennies?

Have I got the special for you! You can commission copy, short stories, anything for just a penny per word! This special runs all January long✨️

Let’s start this new year off right with some commissions 🌹

Whisper of the Wind

Sera could feel the fall chill in the air as it nipped at her exposed shoulders and nose. She shivered, making her way down the lane with more haste than before. Fall was an anxious time of year for her. Houses loomed in the still-setting sun, dark outlines against the warm evening making her blood run cold. She had to get home, she had to get home now.
Her house, quiet and dark, sat at the end of the lane. Her cheerful decorations of sunflowers and watermelons looked eerily out of place. Most people don’t decorate for summer. Sera does it to try and fend off the impending autumn. Things come during the autumn months, dark things. They always seem to gravitate towards her and never anyone else. It has always been this way; she’s never been able to escape it, not even moving to a coastal town in North Carolina helped.
As she climbed the front steps, the wind blew. She heard a whisper on the wind, very faint and almost unnoticeable. Sera always noticed this voice. It was impossible for her to miss it.
β€œSera, mommy’s home.”

Hey all!

I wanted to pop in with a little blog post, I’m thinking of doing sort of a monthly recap going forward because a lot of stuff has been going down! I don’t know about my followers, but it’s just been a crazy 2023 thus far.

Update numero uno and perhaps one of the most exciting: Mr. Rose Petal Writings and I are looking at buying a house! It’s been about as hellish as you can imagine, excusing the PG-13 rating of this post now. The market is absolutely insane and it’s definitely taking its toll, but this leads to more exciting news:

I’m accepting commissions again! That’s right, you can poke around on the ole website, see some samples of my writing, and get your very own piece written! Ever have that one idea you want to read so badly, but you don’t have the time, patience, confidence, or motivation to write it? Send me a message or email me and I’d be happy to write it for you!

So, please feel free to share this around, get the word out that your favorite Rose with the Most is accepting commissions, maybe send a message for a commission yourself! What makes a better gift than an original story all your own?

Much love and sane wishes,

OliviaπŸ’œπŸŒΉ

Hey guys!

I was feeling very nostalgic today and wanted to make a post about it. I’ve been reminiscing on my high school days a lot.

For those who don’t know me very well, my fiancΓ© and I have been together since 2015, which was the summer before our 11th grade year. With it almost being 2023, we’ve gone through quite a lot of change and growth together as a couple and as individuals.

I will be the first to tell you that it is not easy. Our growth was not linear, and it was not always good growth. There were definitely growing pains as the definition of who we were began to change.

It’s really easy to get lost in what was and wish for things to stay the same. It would be so nice to keep the same goofy, protective, bright and friendly boy I started dating at 16. I’m sure he thinks how nice it would be to keep the cute, shy, generous, and outdoorsy girl he started dating at 15.

The key phrase that makes that a problem is that we were 16 and 15. We did not know the things we know now, we didn’t have that maturity and experience that we have since gained. If we don’t make room for change to occur, change will make a path. Change is part of the natural circle of life and is necessary for us as humans to continue on our individual journeys.

While I miss the notes we used to pass, and how he used to ask to kiss me, I love that we just instinctively hold hands now. I love that when we’re together, some part of us be it an arm, shoulder, or hand, is always touching the other, always keeping that connection. He doesn’t need my permission to kiss me because we have established longterm permission. He knows my subtle quirks, and I his. I know when he needs a moment to stop being happy all the time and just be with his feelings. I now give him the space that at 16, I was not going to give him.

All of this sappy nonsense is partly to work through my own nostalgia, and partly to give some guidance in writing your characters. It’s not just your plot. It’s their arc. Their growth. It’s not going to be linear and it won’t always be good growth. The important thing is to ensure that the factors are in place for your character to grow from what they start as into where you want them to be. Change is an unstoppable force but that doesn’t make it bad. In fact, change is quite good. It is a natural part of what makes the world as it is. As a writer, I feel so lucky that I get to demonstrate that change with my novels. You should, too.

Much love and warm wishes,

OliviaπŸ’œπŸŒΉ

Hey guys!

Sorry about the silence all the time, I honestly thought I’d be better with this blog πŸ˜…

Lots of things have been happening lately, though! I started a new podcast with my friends Hannah and Emmy called Three Way Media. You can find it on Anchor.fm and Spotify if you wanna give it a listen.

I’m still very much open to commissions! You need a Christmas gift, I could use some Christmas cash…it makes a beautiful solution! You’d be supporting a small business (if a one-woman freelancer can be called that) who supports other small businesses where she can!

I sometimes feel like I’m shouting into the void, so please let me know you’re here by dropping a comment or a like if you aren’t feeling chatty!

Thank you all so much for your support, likes, shares, comments, and follows!

Much love,

Olivia πŸŒΉπŸ’œ

Hey guys!

I’m not sure if you’ve noticed on my socials, but I’ve got a special running right now! There’s a post floating around on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram about getting 50% a commission. There’s another post where family and close friends get their first commission from me for FREE!

I hope you all had a happy and safe Thanksgiving, if you celebrate. I’d like to take a moment to thank some of the new subscribers I’ve gotten! I do see those notifications and am so very grateful to you for subscribing to see my content!

Things are about to get a little bit crazy with Christmas coming up, it’s unfortunately inevitable (despite my spooky soul, my family is twinkle lights and snowmen and Santa hats….) that I will be tied up for a bit. I will still be accepting commissions! The estimate I give at the time of commission will be what you pay because it is based on the hours of active work it takes me to complete the commission. Don’t be scared if it takes me a little longer, you won’t be upcharged! That’s on me and my schedule and I will try to get commissions out ASAP, but this is fair warning with all the holiday hubbub.

Once again, thank you guys SO much for subscribing, reading my blog, and supporting me! It means more than you know. I do a little happy dance for each notification!

Much love,

OliviaπŸ’œπŸŒΉ

Hey guys!

Sorry about the delay in posting here, but I’d like to let you all know I’ve got a podcast episode out with Hannah Middaugh!

This episode focuses on grief and writing. We try to keep this heavy topic light, we have a few palate cleansers and crack some jokes throughout, but if this isn’t your jam even with those, that’s okay! Some people can’t discuss grief and depression, or the loss of a loved one. That’s okay.

The episode can be found in all the usual places: YouTube, Spotify, and AnchorFM. Please enjoy, and thank you as always for your support! It means the world πŸ’œ

Much love,

Olivia πŸ’œπŸŒΉ

Hey guys! I know it’s been a while, but I haven’t had too much comment activity and realized it’s been a lot of me telling you and not a lot of asking for input.

So! I wanted to put it out there. If you could pick any project of mine, any package, for free, what would you pick?

If you’re unfamiliar with what I offer, feel free to float around the ol’ website to see my packages, and my mini commissions are on my linktree which is included with my socials!

Leave a comment below and let’s see what projects people want to see written!!
Much love,

Sooooo hi guys!

I’m terribly sorry about the unexplained absence. Life kind of caught up to me and I had to set Rose Petal Writings aside for a hot minute while I focused on my personal life and full-time job.

But thankfully, things are settling down and I have returned! I will likely keep my posting not as frequent as before, as I won’t have the time to be posting every single day, but I will be doing my best to provide regular updates on my personal works as well as posting my (SFW) commissions to the website as I get them!

If you are interested in one such commission, pricing is available on my website (my rates will not be changing just because I have employment) as well as the kinds of commissions I accept!

As a side note, I do accept commissions for NSFW work but please keep in mind it will NOT be posted to my website until I have an age wall and I will NOT be writing those kinds of commissions for anyone under 18! I will ask for your age and I will be keeping a record of the conversation in order to protect myself and my work. Don’t be offended if I ask your age, it’s part of the territory and if you refuse to give your age, I will not write NSFW for you!

Thankfully, I haven’t had any issues with that but it is something I want commissioners to be aware of. If you’ve read this far, THANK YOU! Without your likes, without your views, I may not have come back to this and felt like I couldn’t do the writing I want to do. Each one of you, follower or casual viewer, means the world to this one woman show. So sincerely, thank you.

Much love,

Olivia πŸŒΉπŸ’œ

Oh my gosh you guys!
This took longer than I thought it would, but I got the website updated to include some of my original poems. I really hope you like them!
I already have some stuff posted in the writing excerpts, but I thought you guys deserved better than screenshots. As I learn more about WordPress (and avoid my NSFW work), I decided to use my newfound knowledge to expand the content I offer for viewing!
If you decide you like the content you’re seeing and want some for yourself, I also updated my commissions page (packages and pricing) to include my hourly rate and mini commissions. All of these can be found on my linktree as well!
Linktree link: https://linktr.ee/RosePetalWritings
Thank you guys for taking a look at the update, and I hope you all enjoy seeing new content from me in the future!

Much love,
Olivia

Ha, you guys thought I was done 😏 That’s right, I’m back and I’m making updates!
🌹
I’m keeping most of it under wraps until I’m finished, but just know that it means you guys will get more content out of me!
🌹
I could always use support in the forms of likes and shares, but I also am accepting commissions! Consider sending me a message or an email (olivia.rosepetalwritings@gmail.com) to get your quote today!

March 12th, 2022 5:20 PM

Hey guys!

So, I want to start off by apologizing for the unannounced break I’ve taken from social media. I’ve been scrolling a bit, liking and sharing here and there, but haven’t been posting nearly as much as I used to. I’m terribly sorry for that because you guys come here for content and it just hasn’t been there for you.

But! Next order of business. I’m looking to do a pretty big episode for the podcast to 1) Make up for not posting in February, and 2) To tackle a really difficult topic with writing and with the state of the world. I want to tackle writing about tragedy and grief.

A lot of people have been jumping on the Ukraine popularity train for multiple reasons, not all of them in support of Ukraine. I am running a bit of a freelance promotion right now where I’ll donate part of the commission price (you set it, minimum of 25%) to the IRC. However. I’ve seen people use the hashtags meant to garner support for Ukraine as a means of promoting their products which are completely unrelated.

I want to say this makes me sick. It really does. Yes, you want to use popular hashtags for SEO and algorithm benefits. But keep your tags relevant and do not. DO. NOT. Use tags meant to support others in need to promote an unrelated product. It’s unethical, immoral, and wrong.

I’m looking for someone to guest star on the podcast with me for this episode, but I do have some guidelines. I want someone who has written/researched about tragedy or grief, its effects on the brain, or perhaps even someone trained in psychology relating to the grieving process. I do not want to spread misinformation about this kind of thing due to what’s going on with the world right now.

Anyway. After that heavy discussion. This blog post will (hopefully) hold you over until I can get the podcast recorded and uploaded. Until then, take care of yourselves as needed, watch the dumb cat videos to give yourself some good feels, and take a break from social media as needed.

Much love,

Olivia πŸ’œπŸŒΉπŸŒ»πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦

Much love,

Olivia πŸ’œπŸŒΉ

PS, at some point I’ll be writing some REAL blog posts, work has just been taking some adjusting! Thank you guys so much for your patience and kindness πŸ’œ
